LAJU Carbon's activated carbon, which is steam activated, and has large pore volume which makes it highly suitable for the recovery of gold in Carbon in Leach & Carbon in Pulp Process. The carbon has been developed to maximize gold loading with rapid adsorption kinetics and consistent in circuit performance. Coupled with the high attrition resistance of the carbon with low platelet makes the product an ideal carbon for gold producers. This product is proven to be successful in the gold industry throughout the world including South Africa, Australia, Russia and North America.

Activated Carbon for Gold Recovery The process flow diagram illustrates a typical Carbon in Leach (CIL) circuit used in the recovery pf gold from mined ores. The ore is crushed and milled and the resulting classified ore/water slurry is thickened before passing to a series of CIL mechanically agitated contactors.
In the CIL contactors gold is leached from the ore and is adsorbed into Granular activated carbon LAJU Gold LC0816, which is present in each stage. Inter stage screens are employed to allow the pulp to flow from one stage to another while at the same time retaining the carbon in the individual contactors.
The carbon is transferred counter-current to the pulp flow. The loaded carbon is then washed with acid to remove all the mineral contaminants after which it is transferred to an elution column.
Gold is eluted from the loaded carbon by using a concentrated sodium cyanide/ sodium hydroxide at an elevated temperature and pressure. The resulting gold solution is passed to electro winning cell where gold is deposited onto steel cathodes. The loaded cathodes are removed and process smelted to produce gold bullion (Dore)
The spent carbon is then regenerated in a regeneration kiln. The recovered carbon is then screened and returned to the adsorption circuit.
